There’s always a cultural event to light up Paris – even at night! Every year since 2002, you can deambulate throughout Paris to discover some original contemporary art installations and live shows. Get your coffee ready for Nuit Blanche 2016!
Nuit Blanche 2016, or White Night, is now in its 15th Parisian edition. Its a great occasion for culture to manifest itself both inside and outside – a gathering which attracts thousands across the capital. Here’s where to go and what to see for the annual all nighter art crawl which will take place on October 1st.
A concentration of art installations within the public space, emerging and well-known contemporary artists and cultural collaborations between art infrastructures and events – the perfect recipe for a Nuit Blanche. The theme for this year’s edition is Love, and how appropriate for Paris! The event is directed by Jean de Loisy, Director of the Palais de Tokyo modern art museum.
Taking inspiration from Italian author Francesco Colonna’s 1467 novel, Poliphilo’s Strife of Love in a Dream, over 40 art installations are to be discovered starting from l’Hôtel de Ville in the 4th district to l’Ile au Cygnes in the 15th District. We are suggested an exceptional artistic itinerary following the main character’s evolution in the book – that of Poliphilo pursuing his love Polia through a dream-like landscape. A map of emotions which takes us along the quais of the Seine and through various sentiments surrounding love: daydreaming, heartbeats, fragility, sensuousness….tests which Poliphilo must overcome.
